How strong and passionate was our love,
as we battled our demons together, often clashing in the process;
I never loved another so fiercely as you…
We were beautiful, weren’t we?
How quickly the uncaring tides of life swept us apart,
as we gazed, awestruck, broken, vowing to never let go;
I didn’t realize how strong we were, before these years…
We never gave up, did we?
How headstrong and foolish is the love that held us captive,
as the God of our world knew it could never be more than what it was,
before everything changed and the memories began to fade…
We never forgot our love, did we?
How distant you became in the weeks leading up to your death,
as realization took hold of you, knowing we’d never truly be again;
you tried to protect me from it till the very end…
We always fought in vain, didn’t we?
